The Beginning
After nearly 20 years in the wine industry, I was beginning to the see the toxic nature of both the industry and the drug itself. I began my own personal search for truth in 2015, shortly after giving birth to my daughter, being unable to sustain the lifestyle the industry required (heavy drinking), and successfully raise my child. This five-year personal endeavor shaped my business discourse to enable me to successfully sell my winery and seek new opportunities. Although I was struggling with exactly what career change to pursue given the rural geographic location myself and my daughter reside, I knew resolutely that I wanted to help people feel better, lead happier lives, believe in themselves, and be inspired.
After selling my business, I spent the summer pursuing intense accounting, tax and auditing courses to become a CPA.Completing this certificate, it was time to take care of myself, so I made an annual appointment with my doctor.Shortly thereafter, I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer. In the subsequent months as I prepared for treatment, I dug deep to determine if taxes were what I really wanted to do with the next 40 years of my life. Ultimately, I concluded taxes wouldn’t be enough to achieve my goal of helping others.
Life Skills
Being immersed in the hospital setting so frequently due to my treatment, I really kept kicking myself for not just becoming a doctor as I had originally planned as a College student in Biochemistry. In my twenties, my ego was strong and wished to prove itself by designing my own wine brand. However, when I was staying with some close friends, one of whom currently has her own therapy practice, it dawned in me that I would make a good counselor, having such varied life experience to offer a range of people.
I have led a very independent, successful life as an entrepreneur negotiating deals, managing 100s of people and essentially being responsible for their families. Additionally, I have worked on five different volunteer boards to help develop our rural community. I am educated in the sciences as a biochemist, molecular biologist, chemist and botanist; in business and marketing; as well as in the practice of mindfulness and yoga as an experienced registered yoga teacher.
I have a good deal of clinical and personal experience dealing with alcohol use, childhood co-dependency and trauma, recovering from narcissistic abuse, and dealing toxic relationships. I have experience with the LGBTQI+ community and now twice a cancer survivor! Drawing on my experiences, it seems I could offer a range of clients clarity in navigating their own life journeys when dealing with major life events in regards to careers, relationships, addiction, spirituality, athletics, prolonged grief, trauma, and physical and mental health.
